David B Renton MD

David B. Renton, MD, FACS, is a surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and serves as Chief of Surgery at University Hospitals East. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and is also described in university publications as a Clinical Professor of Surgery. Dr. Renton’s clinical focus includes minimally invasive surgery, with particular expertise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic approaches. His practice also includes complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and he is committed to applying evolving surgical techniques to support safe procedures, durable outcomes, and patient-centered care. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed a general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He pursued additional fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery at The Ohio State University. Earlier in his career, he held a faculty appointment at the University of South Carolina before returning to Ohio State. In addition to his clinical and academic work, Dr. Renton contributes to the surgical community through professional society leadership, including a committee chair role with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
