Julio Gutierrez MD

Julio Gutierrez, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician and transplant hepatologist specializing in advanced liver disease and liver transplantation. He is affiliated with Scripps Health/Scripps Clinic within the Organ Transplantation program, where he helps guide care for patients with complex hepatic conditions, including cirrhosis, metabolic liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Dr. Gutierrez serves as Director of Care Pathway in Transplant Hepatology/Organ Transplant at Scripps Clinic and holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor in transplant hepatology. In addition to his clinical practice, he contributes to physician education through continuing medical education programming focused on contemporary management of chronic liver disease and emerging therapies. Dr. Gutierrez has also participated in peer-reviewed scholarship addressing liver disease outcomes and health disparities, including work related to hepatocellular carcinoma care in Hispanic communities. His approach emphasizes evidence-based, coordinated care and close collaboration with multidisciplinary transplant, oncology, and specialty teams to support patients and families through evaluation, treatment, and long-term follow-up.
