Maryann Popiel MD

Maryann Popiel, M.D., is a psychiatrist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where she serves as Chair of the Department of Behavioral Healthcare Services and leads comprehensive psychiatric care across inpatient, outpatient, and addiction services. She has devoted her career to strengthening behavioral health services within the Bronx public hospital system, with a focus on expanding access, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and advancing high-quality, patient-centered care. Dr. Popiel holds an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry and completed residency training in psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. With more than three decades of experience in psychiatry, she brings deep clinical expertise and leadership in program development and service delivery.
