Rick Wickstrom, PT, DPT, CPE, CDMS, is a physical therapist specializing in ergonomics and occupational health. He is affiliated with Workability Systems, Inc., where he supports individuals and employers in preventing injury, improving function, and promoting safe, sustainable work performance. Dr. Wickstrom earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University and completed PhD-level coursework in ergonomics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. With more than three decades of consulting experience in occupational health and ergonomics, he brings a practical, evidence-informed perspective to complex workplace and functional questions. His professional services include functional capacity evaluation, ergonomic job analysis, transitional work-site therapy, workplace accommodation studies, and the design of worker fitness screening programs. He also provides expert witness testimony related to physical disability, fitness-for-duty determinations, and workplace accommodations. Dr. Wickstrom has contributed to the profession through guideline development, including serving as lead editor for APTA guidelines addressing functional capacity evaluation. He is also a co-author of peer-reviewed research on exertion rating methods. He is a member of APTA Federal Physical Therapy Section, APTA Private Practice, and the APTA Academy of Research.
